Business Process Management: Bringing Business Analysts Closer to IT

The biggest promise of SOA is flexibility and agility for IT, yet it is Business Process Management, built on SOA, that delivers on this promise. BPM provides a faster way to build a business process, which IT can use directly by attaching services and deploying it on a server. It allows the analyst new means of simulating the behavior of a process, with both static and dynamic analysis to study cost, resources, time, and other statistics. The tools make it easy to study the effects of a change, before it is deployed. For these reasons many consider BPM to be the most important of SOA technologies.
This talk will introduce BPM as four parts: modeling, integration, deployment, and monitoring. We will focus on the new tools and capabilities available for business analysts, to allow them to work more closely with IT, and the corresponding tools that IT uses to deploy an analyst's business process model as a running application.

Reuse, a key paradigm in SOA, through the conscious design of the loose-coupling concept when assembling systems is an attractive proposition. XQuery: a 360degree view

The success of the XML as a universal data model for modern applications depends on the effectiveness of ancillary technologies and standards. If XML documents are now more commonly exchanged and stored, XPath, XSL and XQuery enable the effective manipulation and querying of XML data. In a nutshell XQuery is XML’s SQL. In this presentation we will give an overview of the language and demonstrate its usage. We will try and keep the presentation accessible to the neophyte, yet, at the same time, engaging for computer scientists and engineers familiar with XML technologies.
Ensuring Rapid Business Logic Integration in SOA

Mr Stanley Eu will explain the generic goals for SOA which are reuseablity, agility and efficiency in the integration of disparate systems, internal or external to an organization. Agility requires being able to change rapidly but current testing processes hinder rapid change. Reuse requires trust and proper testing creates trust in services and applications. Efficiency is the product of agility and reuseability but manual processes hinder this, as such automation is key. Ultimately, we need to ensure that we are able to meet the rapid changes in SOA, especially as systems become more and more complex, trust becomes a key factor.
